Samsung Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge devices have long been forgotten by Samsung, even though they’re are very much capable of running the latest Android OS update. The last update that the Galaxy S7 series received was based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It’s not even based on One UI. These phones run the age-old Samsung Experience ROM. While Samsung did recently change its policy to support the S-series phones for three generations of Android OS upgrades, that does not apply to the S7 series phone. However, you can still flash the latest Lineage OS 18.1 ROM based on Android 11 onto Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
So even though Samsung may have abandoned these phones, which are not that old, you can still install the latest Android 11 ROM. Like every Android device, there are some developers who still keep the development going and keep these phone’s software updated with custom ROMS.
Thanks to developer van_Meler on XDA, here we have the first unofficial builds of the popular Lineage OS 18.1 ROM based on Android 11 for the Exynos variants of Galaxy S7/S7 Edge. Most of the functions are working in the first builds with more updates coming in the future. So if you wish to see a more stable Android 11 ROM for your device, do participate in the development and provide the developer with feedback.
Do note that Lineage OS 18.1 ROM is only available for the Exynos variants available globally. For Snapdragon variants found in North America, you may not see Android 11 ROMS unless some developer manages to unlock the Bootloader.
